Job Title Senior Programme Officer (Arts/Intellectual Exchange)
or Senior Administrative Officer
Job Description

The Senior Programme Officer is in charge of creating, developing and implementing programmes that enhance the warm relationship between Japan and Malaysia. Programmes may fall under such fields as fine art, performing arts, traditional and contemporary music, film, animation & manga, design, architecture, etc., as well as social issue-based programmes like community involvement, public intellectuals exchange and youth education. Programmes may take the form of exhibitions, joint workshops, collaborative creation of artworks or films, international conferences, network meetings, public lectures, research invitations to and from Japan, and numerous types of grants. It is a position requiring high levels of skill in task management, ability to work both independently and as a team, proactiveness in building networks and expanding knowledge of new fields, and commitment to international exchange between Japan and Malaysia.

The candidate is expected to develop new programmes by identifying collaborative partners in Malaysia and counterparts in Japan, as well as handling existing programmes. The candidate is expected to showcase excellent project management skills in unfamiliar settings, considering The Japan Foundation’s wide range of projects. The officer will be required to work with private and government partners, as well as organisations from Japan.

It is often the case that the officer is assigned outside of their own specialty, background or experience. However, depending on the experience and background, the successful candidate may be assigned to focus on a specific task such as public relations, grant management or governmental administration in Japanese. It is also possible for the candidate to be assigned as either programme officer in the arts, especially in the field of performing arts and creative industry, or as a programme officer of Japanese Studies & Intellectual Studies to handle public lectures, fellowships and conferences.  In either case, it is expected of the candidate to be multitask and assume responsibility for several administrative tasks within their personal capacity.

We are looking for an experienced, responsible and enthusiastic individual who has excellent task management skills. Candidates who have work experience in any form of arts, arts management, funding/grant organisation, NGOs/NPOs, tourism & leisure industry and public relation industry are welcome to apply.
