The Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur and Co. Yamada Un would like to express our thanks to all dancers who joined us for the one?piece auditions at Studio Tari Utama, ASWARA, on 30 & 31 October 2015. We were simply overwhelmed by the energy, commitment and talent demonstrated, which heightens our anticipation for the performance to come at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac) on 30 & 31 January 2016.
This is what Un Yamada has to say about the candidates:
“It was an extremely difficult task for me to select only five dancers among all the talented candidates I encountered at the audition. So many different choices of members for “one?piece” come to mind, and I had to spend a lot of time to think over and to finalise the selection.
Unlike other auditions I’ve conducted before, the selection criteria this time around were not just limited to the charm and skill of each dancer. The characteristics of the performance itself formed the main pillar of consideration, which required such qualifications as tough movement, strong energy, flexible body, as well as height.
I have seen a variety of dancers all over the world, but Malaysian dancers are the ones I am especially attracted to. On top of that, I saw a great deal of hope and courage from all the dancers participating in the audition, and would like to see more. Therefore, I would like to maximise this opportunity and seek for future possibilities with them in other projects.
But in the meantime, together with the selected five dancers, we will concentrate to work on “one?piece” which will be on view at klpac on January 30 and 31, 2016.”
Our sincerest congratulations to all of the successful candidates listed below. We will be in contact shortly regarding participation in the rehearsals in Tokyo on25 Dec 201510 Jan 2016.
