Ms. Mami Kataoka is the chief curator of the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, where they hold various world-class contemporary exhibitions.
She has been a key figure in documenting and analyzing trends within contemporary Japanese art since 2000, considering relevant social historical and generational themes evident in contemporary Japanese art.
The Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur and Balai Seni Visual Negara will co-organize her talk on Japanese contemporary art, in conjunction with the Curatorial Workshop for which she is a lecturer.
The talk will be facilitated by Mr. Yap Sau Bin (Specialist Staff, Faculty of Creative Multimedia, Multimedia University, and a founding member of Rumah Air Panas).
Introduction
The Japan Foundation announces a call for applications to a Curatorial Workshop in June 2014. It is a program aimed to enhance expertise in curating contemporary art and related platforms. Participants are required to present an exhibition/art project proposal at the workshop and three selected participants will receive a grant for a study tour in Japan (25 August – 7 September 2014), after which they will be asked to organize an exhibition/art project in early 2015 in Malaysia.
