The Japan Foundation in co-operation with the National Library of Malaysia under the auspices of the Embassy of Japan will organize the Dolls of Japan exhibition from 2 to 15 July at the foyer of the Library.
In Japan, dolls have been a part of everyday life since ancient times. They portray the aspiration of its people, possess distinctive regional attributes and over the centuries have developed into many diverse forms. Dolls also provide a showcase of Japanese crafts and textiles.
A total of 70 dolls in different sizes and from different parts of Japan and some in full costumes will be on display in the exhibition. Some of the dolls are also depicting theatrical acts such and Noh and Bunraku.
