HARDESH SINGH

Hardesh Singh is better known as the founding member of the 50cents Jazz Club, and composer for many local films, including Amir Muhammad’s Lelaki Komunis Terakhir and Yasmin Ahmad’s Gubra. He graduated with a degree in telecommunications engineering but decided he was already so good at maths that he should pursue a more artistic path. This lead him to study with Ustad Ali Akbar Khan in San Francisco, where he blended in very well with the tech geeks imported from India, even though he couldn’t read a single line of code thanks to his locally obtained degree.

Upon returning to Malaysia, he studied gambus under the late Fadzil Ahmad, and the malay gamelan at ASWARA (Previously known as ASK) and ventured into film composing. Susuk, to be released later this year will mark his 10th film score. He currently runs his own audio house, SoundWorks Productions, working on ad campaigns and sound design, as well as producing a number of local talents; and has just founded a new tech-start up that aims to provide free broadband to all Malaysians, only because he thinks he needs to play his part for Vision 2020.
