Beyond The Bridge
directed by Sotho Kulikar
In 1994, the reconstruction of a bridge in Phnom Penh is complete after two years. Fukuda, the president of a Japanese company that oversaw the project, stands by the fruit of his labour where he reflects about the time he spent in Cambodia two decades ago. Then, he had fallen in love with a local dancer named Mealea whom he promised to marry and bring to Japan. However, the rise of the Khmer Rouge regime and impending civil war tore them apart, and now Fukuda is left wondering if she is still alive.
