The Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur (JFKL) and Embassy of Japan in Malaysia are proud to present ?Min?yo ? Echoes of Japanese Folk Songs? on 16th & 17th December 2009.
With this concert, we would like to introduce Japanese culture through Min?yo as a window to Japanese ordinary people?s life. Performers are two prominent Min?yo singers, TANAKA Shoko and NAKAMURA Hitomi, both specialising in Japanese folk songs. The concert includes Min?yo songs from all over Japan. Min?yo songs are written according to some topics like seasons and depiction of labourers? working life.
Singers are accompanied by four musicians ? playing the Shamisen, Tsugaru-Jamisen, Syakuhachi cum Shinobue and Taiko cum Uta-bayashi. These are basic musical accompaniment for Min?yo and are performed in traditional style without any modern arrangement.
