The digitally restored masterpiece “Mukhsin” (2006) directed by the late Yasmin Ahmad will be returning to the big screen for one day only at GSC Mid Valley Megamall this 26 March 2022!
The restoration project of “Mukhsin” was carried out by The Japan Foundation Asia Center (JFAC) in an effort to restore Asian masterpieces, with kind cooperation of Primeworks Studios and Imagica Lab in Japan under the supervision of Low Soon Keong, the Director of Photography of the film. The project was carried out using a 35 mm positive print and utilised globally acclaimed Japanese film restoration technology. The restored version was premiered at the 33rd Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) in October 2020.
?Mukhsin? had its world premiere at the 19th Tokyo International Film Festival back in 2006 with the presence of Yasmin and two of the main cast, Sharifah Aryana and Shafie Naswip. It tells a story of the blossoming romance between Orked (Aryana) and Mukhsin (Shafie) who visits her village to spend the school holidays. This film is the last of the Orked trilogy, and a prequel to ?Sepet? and ?Gubra?. ?Mukhsin? went on to win the Generation Kplus International Jury?s Grand Prix of the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk at the 57th Berlin International Film Festival (2007). It has continued to receive screenings and acclaim around the world.
