This lecture provides an overview of Japanese Studies in Malaysia beginning 1993 when the Japan Studies Program was established in the University of Malaya.
The lecture is divided into four sections. The first gives a background to Japanese Studies in Malaysia. The second and third focus on organization of seminars and research on Japan. The final section deals with future directions and challenges facing Japanese Studies in Malaysia.
