One of Japan?s most acclaimed dance theatre performance groups, Pappa Tarahumara is coming back to KL! Based on Anton Chekhov?s classic, Three Sisters is radically translated into the context of Japanese countryside in the 1960s. Pappa Tarahumara has toured UK, Germany, The Netherlands, Italy, Australia, Mexico, Korea and Hong Kong. Three Sisters toured to Esplanade of Singapore in May this year and the review described it as ?Pappa Tarahumara is investigating the essence of the three sisters? characters in a universal study of young women growing up in a restricting world ? one which is danced superbly and is extraordinarily engaging and entertaining? (The Flying Inkpot). Pappa Tarahumara first appeared in Kuala Lumpur in 2000 with Spring Day, and then with a collaboration with Malaysian artists, Spring in Kuala Lumpur in 2003.

Since its foundation in 1982, Pappa Tarahumara has offered unique spectacles with harmonious woven of various forms of art. The company, comprising members from numerous artistic disciplines, aims to create a work liberated from a meaning, which achieves universality and transcends national borders. Artistic Director Hiroshi Koike named his troupe after the Tarahumara Indian in Mexico, to whom he was introduced through the writings of Antonin Artaud. Koike aims to create ?stage poetry? through his works that will afford equal importance to set design, dance, music, video and architecture?leaving audience members free to get indulged in their imaginations.
Hiroshi Koike, artistic director of the company since its foundation, has been a pioneer in Japanese contemporary performing arts. He majored in Sociology in Hitotsubashi University. He has gained a worldwide reputation for Pappa Tarahumara through past tours in the U.K., U.S., Germany, France, Belgium, Holland, Australia, and other 30 countries and has led more than 45 productions. Koike is also a director of a performing art institution, P.A.I.-Pappa Tarahumara Performing Arts Institute, and makes a great effort to educate and foster young artists today.

As for the woman?s feelings as for the men?s feelings are deeply impressed by the astonishing direction and the force of Eros to surge. Hiroshi Koike directs with original method, the ways of life of three sisters based on by Chekhov?s ?Three Sisters?. They have hopes and dreams for each, but cannot ran away from their really of life. Such unhappy women are described by the dance, performance, and song. It is innovative and primitive. Pappa TARAHUMARA presents a refreshing tragic comedy.
