The Japan Foundation conducts programs in the three major areas of Arts and Cultural Exchange, Japanese-Language Education Overseas, and Japanese Studies and International Dialogue. There are applicable programs in each of these areas, and a support is provided for activities conducted by individuals and organizations that are involved in international exchange.
Please read the General Instructions thoroughly, and then go to the Program List, organized by categories and objectives, for general information of each program.

If you find in the Program Guidelines a program that matches the project that you or your organization are planning, please obtain the respective application instructions and application forms. Complete the forms and submit your application to the specified office.
The Japan Foundation screens the applications and provides support to successful applicants.
The Japan Foundation Program Guidelines for Fiscal Year 2024 (April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025) outline the full array of the Japan Foundation’s applicable programs.
The Japan Foundation handles personal information appropriately and in accordance with the “Act on the Protection of Personal Information Held by Incorporated Administrative Agencies, etc.” (Act No. 59 of 2003) and other applicable laws. Special Notes for the users in the EEA(European Economic Area) member countries
The Japan Foundation complies with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (the “GDPR”) and other applicable national laws in connection with the provision of any of the services that the Japan Foundation provides to users in the European Economic Area (the “EEA”). Details can be reviewed at the website.
Personal information (data) provided in the application forms, such as a grantee’s name, affiliation and project overview, is used in procedures such as screening, project implementation, and ex-post evaluation. It is also carried in the Detailed Annual Report of the Japan Foundation Activities, the Annual Report, on the Japan Foundation website, and in other public relations materials. Personal information is also used for purposes such as the compilation of statistics. For details regarding the use of personal information in each program, please refer to the application instructions for each program.
Prospective applicants outside Japan should contact the nearest Japan Foundation overseas office, or the nearest Embassy or Consulate-General of Japan when there is no regional Japan Foundation overseas office in the country.
Prospective applicants from within Japan should contact the section in charge at the Japan Foundation domestic offices.
